Final game switched to Liverpool

Lancashire's final home game in the LV= County Championship against Hampshire will now take place at Liverpool Cricket Club

The fixture, which will be played from Wednesday 7th to Saturday 10th September, was originally due to take place at Old Trafford.

Mike Watkinson, Cricket Director at LCCC, said: “We have no concerns about the new wicket at Old Trafford, which has successfully hosted our one-day domestic programme, the NatWest One Day International between England and Sri Lanka and is set to feature the NatWest International T20 match between England and India in August.

“However, due to the laying of the new square, we have only five pitches available to us to use this season. The volume of one-day cricket at Old Trafford means that all the pitches, with the exception of the India T20 pitch, have been well used, which has not allowed the grass growth we would have ideally wanted for four-day cricket. As a result of this, and taking into consideration the pitches we have already played on at Aigburth this season, it was decided to take the game to Liverpool.

 “Whilst realising this may be disappointing to those Lancashire Members and supporters who were hoping to see a Championship match at Old Trafford this season, we also know that they want us to prioritise cricket in all of our decision-making, which is what has been paramount in our minds in respect of this matter.”
