Colts lose to Carnforth

Colts lose to Carnforth

The Lancashire Colts have lost thier latest Northern Premier League match by 7 wickets to Carnforth

Lancashire Colts have lost their latest Northern League fixture going down by 7 wickets on a cold day to Carnforth CC 1st XI.

Having lost the toss, the Colts were asked to bat on a firm wicket in somewhat cold and overcast conditions. Two early wickets fell as opener Matt Winter was bowled for 8 and then Mark Walling was caught and bowled by Carnforth professional Gary Pedder to leave them at 18-2 after 5 overs.

Ammer Mirza and Sam Holden restored the balance with a 3rd wicket stand of 52; however when Mirza fell, caught behind to keeper Phil Harvey for 39 off 49 balls (7x4s, 1x6s) to give Carnforth bowler Morris his first wicket, a middle order batting collapse followed.

This started with Colts skipper Tom Hardman out for 1 (caught behind), and no.6 bat Tom Steele out next ball-bowled off his pad-for a duck. This gave Pedder 4 wickets at this stage and he went on to claim a a fifth with the wicket of Holden for 17 (caught behind) and to leave Lancs at 74-6 after 19 overs.

No.7 bat Ryan Smith then showed dogged resistance and found able support from keeper Gary Knight making his Colts debut this season. The pair added 54 for the 7th wicket until Smith fell (bowled) for 43 off 61 balls (5x4s) to Morris. Lancs eventually finished on 133 all out off (37 overs) with Pedder returning 5-49 off 19 overs (4 maidens) and spinner Morris finishing with 4-40 off 13 overs (2 maidens).

In response, Lancs Colts grabbed the early wicket of opener Darren Moore (bowled middle stump) by opening bowler Luke Williams to show some early fight with a low total on the board. However, a 2nd wicket stand of 85 by opener Ryan Nelson and no.3 bat Morris gave the home side a firm base. Morris eventually went for 63 off 68 balls (caught by Mirza) off the bowling of off-spinner Tim Le Breton, his innings included (9x4s, 2x6s).

Carnforth went on to win by 7 wickets with Colts' Luke Williams returning 1-26 off 9 overs (1 maiden) and spinner Tim Le Breton 1-39 from 12 overs (1 maiden).  Our final Northern League affair this season will see us face Lancaster CC 1st XI on Sunday, 4th September 2011.
