Colts suffer first reverse

The Lancashire Colts suffered their first defeat of the season against Kendal CC last weekend, despite a seven wicket haul for Mattie McKiernan

Kendal captain Chris Miller won the toss and elected to bat.

Having lost an early wicket Kendal's Kiwi international professional Jamie How came to the crease and looked in ominous form, despite some excellent bowling from openers Dan Hawke and Adam Hodgkins.

How's innings came to an end when he reached 20 as he became one of seven Mattie McKiernan victims. McKiernan finished with an impressive 7-41 from 12.5 overs.

Kendal had to rely on veteran Terry Hunte who made a brisk 55 from 67 balls to help set the Colts a target of 136 to win.

In reply Lancs lost two early wickets. Michael Barnes (lbw) and Ammer Mirza (run out) to put some early pressure on the young Colts batsmen.

Liam Livingston top scored with 35 but runs were hard to come by as a consequence of some good bowling from the Kendal bowlers.

Led by their captain off spinner Chris Miller, who took 5-41 from 22.5 overs, the Colts were bowled out for 114 in the 46th over, falling 21 runs short.

The next game for the Colts is against Barrow on Sunday 22nd May.
