Colts suffer narrow loss

Colts suffer narrow loss

Lancashire Colts narrowly lost their first game of the season against Barrow

Barrow CC vs Lancashire Colts XI , Sunday 28 April
Barrow 132 all out (39.4 overs)
Lancashire Colts 110 all out (37.2 overs)
Barrow won by 22 runs  - Full Scorecard

A delayed start to the match due to heavy and perisistent rain meant the game was reduced to 42 overs per side. Lancashire Colts won the toss and elected to field first in somewhat overcast conditions. Barrow CC lost early wickets and soon found themselves in trouble at 16-3 inside 5 overs thanks to a new ball burst from Ben Roberts and Mark Finan, the top three only making single figure scores.

However, Barrow soon rallied and repaired the damage with a 4th wicket stand of 62 thanks to professional S. Saman who top-scored with 66 (including 6x4s & 4x6s) and Greg Reynolds. Barrow eventually posting 132 all out from 39.4 overs, with Colts' James Spires taking 3-31 from 8 overs, Ben Roberts 2-25 from 7 overs, and John Dotters 2-17 from 8.4 overs.

Lancashire Colts required a target of 133 off 44 overs (2 overs carried over from the Barrow CC innings) but soon found themselves in early trouble at 12-4 inside 8 overs due to fine bowling from Saman and Daryl Wearing in overcast conditions.

A brief 5th wicket partnership of 22 between Fraser Philips and Ben Sharp steadied the Colts innings Saman and Wearing both claimed wickets to reduce Lancs further to 35-6 off 16 overs. Matt White and James Macdonough then combined down the order with an array of well placed drives and hard hitting sixes in a 7th wicket stand off 44. However, the reintroduction of captain Wearing back into the attack turned the game in Barrow's favour with the wickets of White and Macdonough in succession for 30 (including 3x4s, 2x6s) and 12 respectively to leave Lancs 80-8 inside 29 overs.

Salman returned to seal victory for the home side, bowling Lancs out for 110 off 37.2 overs with final figures of 5-30 off 13.2 overs while Wearing following with his own five wicket haul of 5-29 off 12 overs as Barrow won by 22 runs.
