Colts win at Darwen

Colts win at Darwen

Lancashire Colts won by 77 runs in their latest Furness Building Society Northern Premier League match

Darwen CC v Lancashire Colts, Sunday, 6th May
Colts 147 all out (42.4 overs)
Darwen 70 all out (38.1 overs)
Colts won by 77 runs

Lancashire Colts won the toss and elected to bat at Birch Hall, Darwen in fine conditions. Early wickets began to fall  to leave the Colts struggling at 17-3 inside 6 overs as Darwen’s Niall Burke took hold of the game, accounting for the wickets of Tom Steele, Adam Roylance and Anthony McCarthy for single figures.

Mark Walling then undertook a Lancashire batting recovery with a well-timed 71 from 119 balls (10x4s) with partnership's of 60 & 46 for the 4th and 5th wicket respectively with Robert Jones and Danny Lamb. This helped to guide the Colts forward to a respectable 147 all out off 42.4 overs. Of note also was Danny Lamb’s hard fought contribution with a swashbuckling 38 off 62 balls (5x4s) for Lancs. For Darwen CC, the best of the bowling saw Niall Burke return 3-21 from 8 overs (3 maidens), and Darwen’s overseas professional De Kock return 5-40 from 13 overs with his slow-left arm spin.

The Darwen reply mirrored the Colts start to the innings with wickets falling at regular intervals and they soon found themselves in trouble at 24-3 inside 14 overs with the opening burst of Adnan Ghaus and Luke Williams doing the damage. The Darwen middle order showed some resistance with Burke, Cordingley and De Kock all making scores of 18, 10, & 19. However, a victory target of 148 runs proved too large for Darwen who were bowled out for 70 off 38.1 overs with Adnan Ghaus returning 5-25 off 14.1 overs (8 maidens) and the remaining wickets were shared over the bowling of Luke Williams, Robert Jones, & Oliver Jump respectively.

Our next game will see us play at Lancaster CC on Sunday, 13th May 2012.
