Simon Katich leads a 14-man squad for Lancashire's first one-day match of the season when the Lightning take on Durham Dynamos on Monday in the Yorkshire Bank 40 at Emirates Old Trafford.

Glen Chapple is rested for the game but will return to lead Lancashire on Tuesday in the Championship, while Tom Smith misses out following an injury picked up in last week's second team game. Play starts at 1.45pm (gates open 12.45pm) and the two squads are:

Lancashire squad: Simon Katich (capt), Karl Brown, Jordan Clark, Steven Croft, Gareth Cross (wkt), Kyle Hogg, Paul Horton, Simon Kerrigan, Stephen Moore, Oliver Newby, Stephen Parry, Ashwell Prince, Luke Procter, Wayne White.

Durham squad: Dale Benkenstein (capt),  Phil Mustard (wkt), Mark Stoneman, Ben Stokes, Paul Collingwood, Gordon Muchall, Scott Borthwick, Gareth Breese, Mark Wood, Chris Rushworth, Callum Thorpe, Graham Onions, Will Smith, Ryan Pringle.

Simon Kerrigan is hoping to build on a winter one-day tour of Australia with the England Lions by forcing his way into Lancashire’s 40-over team for the start of the Yorkshire Bank 40 competition on Monday against Durham Dynamos at Emirates Old Trafford.

The left-arm spinner, an ever present in the Red Rose’s LV= County Championship team and fresh from a match-clinching five-wicket haul against Glamorgan on Friday, only played three 40-over matches for the Lightning last season (one was a rain-affected match at Worcester), taking three wickets.
But the departure of Gary Keedy to Surrey has opened up an opportunity for the 23-year-old to build on his 19 List A appearances, eleven of which have come for the Lions.

“I had the winter with the Lions where I played more one-day cricket. With Keeds leaving, it's what I've been looking at over the winter and thinking 'if I can get in that 40-over and Twenty20 side, that's what I want to be doing',” he said.

“I want to be progressing in those formats as well.”

Lancashire Lightning enjoyed an encouraging 40-over campaign last season, reaching the semi-finals before losing out to runners-up Warwickshire at Old Trafford in September.

They gained a head of steam during their nine wins from 12 Group A matches, something 23-year-old Kerrigan believes is vital again.

"We didn't get the momentum in the Championship last year like we did the year before,” he said.

“We got it in the CB40, and we want to get it going in all competitions. We've got a great squad this year, and we can be competitive in all formats. We're certainly not going to be slackening off in the 40-over competition.”

Kerrigan will miss Tuesday’s LV= County Championship match against Essex, starting on Tuesday, due to Lions four-day duty. He has been selected to play in a clash with the touring New Zealanders at Grace Road, starting on Thursday.

He added: “If you look at the side they've picked, it's a very strong side. I'm delighted to get the call-up, and hopefully I can show what I can do and put my name up there. All I can do is stick to being consistent and not go away from that.”

Lancashire’s last 40-over meeting with Durham came in 1997 under the guise of the Axa Equity and Law League. A century from Graham Lloyd led to a 57-run win against a side including Australian David Boon.

Glen Chapple and Paul Collingwood are the only ones who featured in that match still playing now.
