EOT Picks Up Top Business Award

EOT Picks Up Top Business Award

IT WAS ‘howzat' for Emirates Old Trafford, home of Lancashire County Cricket Club, as the venue caught the eye of the judges and hit their competition for six as they picked up the Business Tourism Award at Wednesday night's 2013 Manchester Tourism Awards.

The award was one of many presented during the evening to honour the performers over the past year from the Greater Manchester tourism sector.

The award received by Emirates Old Trafford acknowledges the importance of meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sectors of the tourism industry. The judges praised the venue for excellent progress in year one and for presenting very clear evidence of sustainability, staff training and accessibility.

LCCC Chief Executive Daniel Gidney said: “We are proud to see that Emirates Old Trafford has received this award, which is a testament to the vision and dedication shown by everyone at LCCC throughout the stadium redevelopment. We were up against some big Manchester brands and we are thrilled that the judges have recognised that our venue is a leading and versatile business space in the UK.”

Daniel adds: “We are a bespoke conference, exhibition and meeting venue, which for an organisation that is 150 years old, is delighted to be recognised as a serious newcomer to business tourism locally, nationally and internationally with the significant regional economic impact that that brings."

Andrew Stokes, chief executive of Marketing Manchester, said: “It’s been another exceptional year for tourism in Greater Manchester and these awards are our chance to recognise some of the organisations, venues and individuals that go that extra mile to increase standards across the region."

With approximately 1.1 million international visitors a year, Greater Manchester is the third most popular destination in the UK for overseas visitors to Britain. The city’s tourism industry generates £6.6 billion a year for the local economy and supports 84,000 full-time equivalent jobs.
