Hogg and Kerrigan resist Notts

Lancashire's first innings is heading for a fourth day after little play once again at Trent Bridge

Kyle Hogg and Simon Kerrigan made the most of the 12.5 overs of play possible during today’s third day of Lancashire’s County Championship match against Nottinghamshire. The tenth-wicket pair took their stand to 70 unbroken after play started at 4.30pm following rain through the majority of the day.

Two further breaks for bad light meant that play was abandoned for the day shortly before 6pm with Lancashire on 321-9 in their first innings having claimed three crucial batting bonus points.

Hogg and Kerrigan, who have shared the highest partnership of the innings, both recorded season’s bests of 44 not out and 22 not out respectively. Kerrigan has even more than doubled his tally for the entire Championship campaign so far.

Both men played confidently against the second new ball, which was taken immediately when play started, demonstrated by Kerrigan uppercutting Andy Carter for four over the slip cordon and Hogg clipping Paul Franks to the mid-wicket boundary.

Notts suffered a scare when talisman Andre Adams went over on his ankle in his delivery stride. As he went off the field, umpires Michael Gough and Jeff Evans signalled the first delay for bad light. But it seems as if the New Zealander has not suffered any serious damage.
