Hungry Anderson Wants More

Hungry Anderson Wants More

AFTER TASTING both personal and team success in Australia last time around, James Anderson is determined do even better when England take on Australia in the Ashes Down Under.

The Lancashire seamer was the key ingredient for England in 2010-11 for the tourists as they retained the urn with a tasty 3-1 win on Australian soil.

And while he accepts there will be pressure on him to repeat what he did a couple of winters ago, he will be happy enough with another series victory for his country.

He said: “I want to try and improve on what I did here last time if I can. If I get 24 wickets again, obviously I’ll be delighted.

“I hope I can do something similar.

“But the main thing for us is winning the series. Whether I get 10 wickets or 30 wickets, as long as we win the series, I’m not fussed.”

Despite winning the recent Investec Ashes on home soil, Anderson knows it will be a different challenge for Alistair Cook’s men when the action gets underway in a fortnight.

He added: “There’s still plenty of pressure there. We’ve still got to win an Ashes series.

“As leader of the attack, I guess I always feel a bit of responsibility and pressure in that respect – trying to set the tone for the team.

“We’ve got some quality bowlers in our team. It proved in the last series in England that we need guys to step up at different times – in the way that Swanny, Broady and I all did to contribute throughout the series.

“That’s going to be crucial again out here, to win this series.

“I thought we dealt well with the expectation in the summer, and we’re going to have to do that again out here.”
