Jimmy: An Amazing Tour

Jimmy: An Amazing Tour

LANCASHIRE BOWLER Jimmy Anderson believes he is at the top of his game after helping England to a momentous series victory in India.

The Burnley-born seamer was named man of the match in England’s Test victory against India on Monday – a win that ensured a remarkable series win for the first time in 28 years on Indian soil.

It was expected that Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar would be the primary wicket takers on pitches that are traditionally responsive to spin, but it was Anderson, whose reverse swing did the bulk of the damage as India lost a Test series at home for the first time in eight years.

He ended the series with 12 wickets which included four victims in the final test and is now heading home after being rested for the ODI series.

He said: “When we come over here, people think that spinners are going to get all the wickets but we knew that the seamers had a job to do.

“I’ve bowled better than I have in India before. Reverse swing has been a key part of us doing well.

“We have really practiced it in the nets and in the warm-up games before the start of the series. And we executed our plans really well.

“We were only bowling short spells of three or four overs, and that really helps because I have been able to give it my all in each spell and then with both spinners bowling we have been getting long rests.

“It has been an amazing tour.

Anderson’s performance in India means his has taken 528 wickets for his country in all forms of the game – a tally that puts him equal with Sir Ian Botham at the summit of the all-time leading wicket-taking list.

Jimmy will be leading the attack when England defend the Ashes next summer. Why not watch Jimmy on his home ground as England host Australia in what will be a thrilling contest (August 1 to 5).
