Kabir Lends A Hand In Trials

OVER 50 young cricketers from the South Asian community in Trafford, Manchester and Salford took part in trials at Emirates Old Trafford under the watchful eye of Lancashire bowler Kabir Ali.

The young hopefuls were invited to the Indoor Cricket Centre as part of the Club’s Lancashire Way project and were observed and assessed by County Performance Coaches as they were put through their paces in the nets.

Qasim Ali, Lead Coach, said: “We were very impressed by the turnout and the standard of all those involved.

“We certainly have a tough task in choosing who will represent Manchester in the nationwide Lord’s Taverners’ City Cup which gets underway in the summer.

“I would like to thank everybody involved in making the evening a success, especially to StreetChance for their support.”

Rudra Singh, Education Manager/Black and Ethnic Minority Lead Officer of the Lancashire Cricket Board, said: “It was fantastic to see such a great turn out. There were some very skilled and some very raw talent on display.

“This complements our engagement with the ethnic minority communities and the inner city areas where most of the players play ad-hoc cricket outside the mainstream cricket network. I look forward to observing the progress of these players.”

Bobby Denning, Acting Director of the Lancashire Cricket Board, added: “Within Manchester, Salford and Trafford we have a number of groups playing the game within the parks, clubs and in the  StreetChance programme.

“The response to the Lancashire Way South Asian Talent Search demonstrates how the initiative can add value to the current levels of activity and programmes in the area.

“It was great to see the response on the night with our Lancashire Cricket coaches observing the talent on display. Some of these players will go and compete nationally in the Lords Taverners’ City Cup which again shows the value of this initiative.
