Northamptonshire V Lancashire

Lancs set for top of table clash

Lancs set for top of table clash

Fresh from their nail-biting Twenty20 win against Leicestershire, Lancashire are back in LV= County Championship action on Monday against Northamptonshire.

The Red Rose know a third straight four-day win at Wantage Road this week could leapfrog them over the current Division Two leaders, who they hammered inside two days at Emirates Old Trafford last month.

There is a current 17-point gap between the two teams in the league, which could be bridged. Lancashire also have a game in hand.

Kabir Ali starred with the ball in the Twenty20 win, but he is not in the squad for tomorrow. Even so, he will be watching on intently from afar, and he has backed his team-mates to do the business.

Glen Chapple returns to lead the side after being rested against the Foxes, while batsmen Andrea Agathangelou and Luis Reece return to the squad for the trip to the Midlands.

Ali believes that, despite the different competitions, today’s Twenty20 win will boost the squad after three 20-over matches without a win.

He said: “We have lost a couple and drew one, and if we had lost today, we could have gone down there with a completely different mentality. We're an upbeat side now. We've got some great characters in that dressing room. This win will definitely go down nicely.”

Northamptonshire will be able to field Australian all-rounder Cameron White as their overseas player. Their regular overseas player Trent Copeland flew back to Australia before the Emirates Old Trafford match last month, but White is their specialist overseas player for Twenty20.

Like Junaid Khan was for Lancashire a few years ago, the Victorian has been registered to play in the Championship too.

Squad: Glen Chapple (capt), Andrea Agathangelou, Karl Brown, Steven Croft, Gareth Cross (wkt), Kyle Hogg, Simon Katich, Simon Kerrigan, Stephen Parry, Ashwell Prince, Luke Procter, Luis Reece, Tom Smith, Wayne White.
