A slightly sunburnt Lanky reporting for duty!
Hi Thunderbolts, I hope you're all well and that you're enjoying the summer holidays! I've just had a little trip myself, down to the Rose Bowl in Southampton for Twenty20 Finals day.
And what a day it was! Unfortunately Lancashire didn't quite make it but I was there to represent the Red Rose County in the two big mascot events - the race and the all-new dance-off! I had practiced a lot beforehand, doing laps of the Old Trafford field complete with army-style rolls to get used to falling over, but nothing quite prepares you for such intense competition and extreme heat. It was like being back on the African plains it was that warm!
The race was first, and I was surprised to learn that I'd been put in the second group to set off, meaning that I had a lot of ground to make up on the leading pack - I would have had to run faster than my hooves would take me!! The eventual winner, Surrey's Kenny Kennington, was out of the blocks really quickly and there was no catching him. I'm pretty pleased with my 5th place finish, I did my best and I hope you're proud of me!
After the race there was time for a quick rest and an ice bath before the dance-off. It was such a hot day, there were mascots panting and sweating all over the place! As you all know, I love to dance, but it was hard to know what to expect when you're told to 'bust a move' for 30 seconds in front of 20,000 people!
I'd been working hard on my routine in the Indoor Cricket Centre but my heart was pounding as I stepped into the middle of the dance-off ring. I gave it my all and I was especially pleased with my 360 degrees spin and jazz hooves to finish - I got a huge cheer! I was disappointed that I didn't get through to the final but I know that the crowd liked it and that's all that matters to me!
For those of you that are my facebook friends, you can see a video of my routine online, at www.facebook.com. There are a few photos on this page showing what I got up to on my fun day out, including a shot of me picking up speed mid-race!
I'm off to Dave Roberts' physio table now, my legs have been a bit stiff since Saturday! I’m looking forward to showing off my Southampton tan and dancing for a more familiar crowd at our match on 10th August against Worcestershire Royals.
