Pavilion Handed Back To Club

LANCASHIRE COUNTY Cricket Club's Pavilion was handed back to the Club after construction company Morgan Sindall completed work on redeveloping the historic building.

A handing-over ceremony prior to Lightning's YB40 victory against Scotland took place and the occasion and was attended by officials from Lancashire County Cricket Club, Morgan Sindall and design partners BDP.

The new four-storey Pavilion houses the Club’s reception, hospitality areas and other Club facilities. New hospitality suites have been built on the second floor, while the third floor houses a showpiece room – the 1864 Suite and also the Club’s boardroom. The uppermost level of the fourth floor contains nine glass-fronted executive boxes which have their own external balcony space and offer unparalleled views out over the cricket pitch, Manchester and the Pennines beyond.

Chairman of Lancashire County Cricket Club, Michael Cairns OBE, said: “The Pavilion is the heart of Emirates Old Trafford and Lancashire County Cricket Club, and we are delighted with the outcome. It complements The Point, the Players and Media Centre and the two new grandstands. It has first class amenities, not only for our Members, but also for hospitality guests on match days and provides superb facilities for business use on non-match days.”

Barry Roberts, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: “We’re delighted to have completed and handed over such a prestigious project. We are privileged to have been the principal contractor on such an iconic building, having delivered a redevelopment that marries the building’s character and heritage with up-to-date facilities for club members and visitors.”

Gavin Elliott, chairman of the BDP’s Manchester Studio, said: “The Pavilion is the emotional heart of the cricket club, and throughout the design process we have worked with the club to ensure we strike a balance between creating a state-of-the-art sporting venue that respects the emotional attachment many have for the ‘old’ Pavilion. The Pavilion has been restored to its rightful place as the physical and symbolic centre-piece of the new ground.”
