Emirates Old Trafford hosts the second NatWest One Day International of the series this Sunday and there are still a limited number of tickets available.
There have been many thrilling One Day Internationals between the two sides at Emirates Old Trafford. In 2010, we witnessed a nail-biting finish as England won the game with one wicket to spare.
Australia posted a gettable score of 212 but looked slightly more difficult after England’s run chase got off to a bad start when pace bowler Shaun Tait bowled Craig Kieswetter for a first ball duck. It was Andrew Strauss who played a captain’s innings, contributing 87 to England’s total. Australia took wickets regularly, however Tim Bresnan held his nerve to hit the winning runs to seal the one day series 3-0.
A more convincing win for England came in 2012, when they beat Australia by seven wickets at Emirates Old Trafford as they hosted the final game in the NatWest Series, in an overwhelming 4-0 series victory.
Ravi Bopara was awarded Man of the Match for his performance in that game with bat and ball, contributing 52* and economical bowling figures, conceding just eight runs of his four overs along with taking two wickets. Bopara will return to the ground as part of the 2013 England ODI squad in good form after making his first one day unbeaten century for his country against Ireland.
England have beaten Australia in their two previous meetings at Emirates Old Trafford in the limited overs format of the game. After a disappointing Investec Ashes for Australia, they will be looking to have a more successful campaign in the One Day format of the game.
Both teams return this Sunday and it promises to be a great contest. Join us in the electric atmosphere of the newly redeveloped ground and be a part of what promises to be another dramatic day of cricket.
Sunday’s game is nearly sold out, but there are still a limited number of tickets available in B Stand online by clicking here.
