HEAD COACH Peter Moores and batsman Stephen Moore received an extra special team talk ahead of Lancashire's double-header at Hampshire this week when Sir Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, paid them a visit at Emirates Old Trafford on Tuesday morning.
Sir Mervyn, who will step down from his role in June, held a breakfast meeting with over 200 delegates who were invited by the Bank of England, in The Point - Emirates Old Trafford’s unique 1,000 capacity conference and events venue.
Prior to the seminar, Sir Mervyn, who is a patron of Worcestershire County Cricket Club, was taken on a tour of the brand new state of the art Players and Media Centre by CEO Daniel Gidney where he spent some time talking cricket with Peter Moores and former Pears player Stephen Moore before their trip to the south coast.

Daniel said: “We are delighted to have hosted Sir Mervyn King. As a globally respected leader from Banking and Economics who loves cricket, it was great to get his perspective on the importance of the sustainability of cricket clubs as businesses.
“He was impressed by our redeveloped facilities, and by how we had invested for growth and created jobs and how our maturing £45m development was now beginning to bear fruit, particularly with The Point now establishing itself as a leading business venue in the UK. He was also delighted with the view of the pitch from the Players and Media Centre.”
Sir Mervyn later opened the breakfast briefing to the 200-plus senior regional business leaders present by stating: “I am very honoured that my last official visit to the North West as the Governor of the Bank of England is at The Point at Emirates Old Trafford. I always wanted to field at cover point and today I am under cover in The Point.”
