The Chairman of the ECB Cricket Discipline Commission, Gerard Elias QC, has considered comments made by David Smith regarding the pitch, after a recent LV= County Championship match between Lancashire and Northamptonshire.
After discussion with Northamptonshire CCC, Mr Elias has dealt with this matter under the summary procedure under the Cricket Discipline Commission Regulations.
Accordingly, as a condition of the summary penalty, Mr Smith has apologised for the comments and Northamptonshire CCC have admitted responsibility for a breach of ECB Directive 4.5 regarding public statements and have been formally reprimanded and reminded of their responsibilities under ECB regulations.
Northants Cricket has released the following statement from Chief Executive David Smith.
"I wish to apologise for my recent public comments relating to the Emirates Old Trafford pitch on day one of our last LV= County Championship match on 20th June.
My comments were in breach of the ECB regulations. I regret making the comments and I apologise unreservedly to both the ECB and Lancashire for any adverse publicity arising from what I said."
Northants Cricket Vice Chairman Gavin Warren added, “Following discussions with the ECB, Northants Cricket is pleased that this matter has been bought to a satisfactory conclusion.”
