Ashes clash to head for the bar at Emirates Old Trafford
Award-winning brewer Thwaites is giving cricket fans the chance to pledge their allegiance at the bar, as well as in the stands, as England and Australia gear up for the pivotal third Ashes test match at Emirates Old Trafford.
Official sponsor of Lancashire County Cricket Club with its Wainwright golden ale, Thwaites is ensuring that friendly rivalry between the two nations will be at an all-time high, as it announces that the brewer’s best-selling English golden ale Wainwright, will go head-to-head at the pumps with its very own Antipodean brew, Little Bewdy.
The Aussies, who are yet to secure a victory in the series, will be represented by the quarterly special, Little Bewdy, an Australian hopped 4.2% ABV pale ale. Meanwhile, Thwaites Wainwright, voted best golden ale at the prestigious World Beer Awards 2012, will be fighting England’s corner on the bars.
Thwaites has delivered 1,700 barrels of beer to Emirates Old Trafford and expects to sell in the region of 500,000 pints over the course of the four-day sporting extravaganza – more than 11 average-size pubs would sell in one year.
Lee Williams, marketing manager at Thwaites said: “We know just how passionate cricket fans are about the Ashes, so it seems fitting that spectators can keep the friendly rivalry going whilst they enjoy a refreshing pint of Thwaites beer.
“It remains to be seen whether Little Bewdy, our seasonal special, can take on the might of Wainwright but one thing is for sure – cricket fans will be bowled over by both Thwaites beer on the bar when they arrive at Lancashire County Cricket Club. The third Test promises to be another great encounter with the old enemy.”
