The Boys Are Back

The Boys Are Back

The wet and windy conditions at Emirates Old Trafford in November are a far cry away from traditional cricket weather, but that has not deterred the Lancashire players as they report back for fitness tests ahead of the 2014 campaign.

Last year’s Player of the Year Kyle Hogg was one of the first to arrive at the club’s indoor school, as strength and conditioning coach Phil Scott put each of the lads through a series of tests to determine their fitness levels.

“The off season seems to get shorter every year but it’s good to be back and around the lads, “ said Hogg, who was one of three Red Rose bowlers to take over 50 wickets last term.

"There is only some much gym work and sitting around at home that you can put up with.

“It’s fitness testing today. We’ve got the yoyo test, sprint tests and all that exciting stuff. It’s just to give us an idea of where we are at and our programmes will then be based around the results.”

After bouncing back from relegation in style with the Second Division title to their credit, Hogg believes the squad will be in good shape to show their intent for the 2014 campaign.

He added: “You look at the addition of Jos Buttler and it shows that the Club is moving in the right direction .We’ve got a good squad and everybody is desperate to play, which makes everyone play better.”

Meanwhile, the all-rounder has been spending the off season working with SJM Concerts, helping to set up gigs and concerts around the country. It’s something he has done in the past and is very keen to do in his spare time.

He said: “I’ve been keeping myself busy, doing a bit of work in the off season, similar to what I’ve been doing the last couple of winters. I’ve been up and down the country - Brixton and Liverpool recently  - and I have been working with Miles Kane and done a bit with Jessie J in the lead-up to her tour. That was pretty interesting. I’ll be doing a bit more over the next couple of weeks, in and around my training.”
