LCCC Board Member Maurice Watkins CBE has won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Manchester Legal Awards 2013.
The accolade was presented to Mr Watkins last week at a ceremony organised by the Manchester Law Society. More than 500 people attended the event, which was held at the Midland Hotel.
Mr Watkins is Joint Senior Partner at Brabners Chaffe Street’s Manchester office and is also the firm’s Head of Sport. Alongside an impressive career in the legal profession he holds down other key roles including Director of the Rugby Football League Board, Non-Executive Director of Lancashire County Cricket Club, Chairman of the Rugby League European Federation, Chairman of British Swimming, Chairman of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain and a Regional Chairman of Coutts Bank. In June 2012, Mr Watkins stepped down as a director of Manchester United Football Club after 28 years’ service.
Maurice also chairs a number of charitable bodies including Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Charity, Board of Governors of The Manchester Grammar School, The New Islington Free School Project and Breakthrough Breast Cancer North West Appeal.
Commenting on his award, Mr Watkins said: “I am honoured and proud to have received this award from the Manchester Law Society, a body of which I have been a member for many years.”
