Time Capsule at The Point

Time Capsule at The Point
Lancashire County Cricket Club recently invited local school children from Stretford High School to nominate items to go into a Time Capsule to be buried at The Point, our new multi-million pounds conference and events venue which is nearing completion.

Coming in at the top of the list of things that represent what 2010 means to the group of 11 and 12 years olds was Nickelodeon’s number one cartoon character, SpongeBob SquarePants!
Peter Ash, sales manager at LCCC said: "The Point is the beginning of a new era for Lancashire County Cricket Club and we felt it appropriate to mark the occasion with the historic placing of a Time Capsule.  These children are our future generation so we wanted to give them the opportunity to decide what goes in it - things that would give a true representation of everyday life as it is today, according to them.  I must admit it caused quite a bit of amusement when we saw the list of items, with SpongeBob SquarePants at the top!"
In addition to SpongeBob, their list includes a Manchester United shirt, LCCC shirt, lottery ticket, mobile phone, cheque book, set of currency, a light bulb, a copy of the days Manchester Evening News, a metrolink ticket and travelplanner plus a memory stick containing a video of The Point.  Also going into the Time Capsule was a book of poems written by the students.
Peter added: "We thought it would be nice to make Nickelodeon aware of this.  We contacted them, and they very kindly sent us a Fine Art Limited Edition SpongeBob SquarePants print and a SpongeBob cuddly toy to go into the Time Capsule.  This means that thankfully none of the children will need to give up one of their beloved possessions now!"
The Time Capsule ceremony took place last Friday at Old Trafford cricket ground. The Head Teacher, staff and pupils from Stretford High School joined LCCC's Chief Executive Jim Cumbes, and Head Coach Peter Moores to put each of the items into the box, before the capsule was sealed and placed into a specially-created hole in the wall of The Point.
The Point is a 12 million development currently under construction at Old Trafford cricket ground.  Once complete, it will provide conference, event and banqueting facilities for up to 1,000 people.
The Official Opening of the venue is to take place on 27th June, to coincide with the One-Day International game between England v Australia.
