Formal approval from the whole Council was needed before progress could be made on the exciting scheme to transform Lancashire’s ground and to provide the Council with a new Civic Centre at Trafford Quays.
The debate centred on proposals to enable Lancashire to secure our long-term future at Old Trafford, with the potential to develop a ‘world-class cricket venue’. This would be made possible by the construction of the new Civic Centre replacing the existing Town Hall.
Lancashire’s Chief Executive Jim Cumbes said today: “We are delighted that this approval has been given. It means that we can work exclusively with the Council over the next few months to make progress, and there is a very strong likelihood that we will be staying at Old Trafford. I would say that, while it is not 100 per cent, it is 95 per cent certain.”
Negotiations will continue between officials from the Council, the County Club and the developers Peel Holdings.
