Luis Reece has signed a Professional contract having performed well last summer for the 2ndXI. In half a season left handed Luis scored 323 runs @ 64.6 in all 3-day cricket, and has a good technique suited to open the batting. He is finishing his studies at Leeds/Bradford University and will join up with the remainder of the squad in the New Year.
Luis joined Lancashire's Academy in 2008, having made his 2ndXI debut the previous year, before going on to Leeds/Bradford University. He played for the Unicorns in the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition in 2011 and 2012 and was on a Scholarship contract with Lancashire in 2012.
He has played two first-class matches for Leeds/Bradford to date, both in 2012, and has made a significant mark. In his first against Surrey at the Oval, he took 2-43 from ten overs in the first innings and scored 28 in the second. In his second against Yorkshire, he took 3-25 from 14 overs in the first innings and scored 60 in his side’s second innings.
But it was in a three-day friendly against Sussex a few weeks later that he really got stuck in, even earning national acclaim for his exploits with the ball. In defending a first-innings score of 164, the left-armer snared 7-21, and at one stage had the incredible figures of 5-0 from five overs.
Lancashire fans will be hoping he can produce something similar in years to come.
